This templates indicates that a word is a rebracketing (also called “metanalysis” or “resegmentation”) and links to the glossary section explaining the term. It is used in etymology sections. It places the entry in a language-specific subcategory of Category:Rebracketings by language.

- The language code (see Wiktionary:Languages) for the language that the term is in. All Wiktionary language codes are supported, including those for constructed and reconstructed languages.

- (optional) The term that this term was derived from. The template will automatically remove diacritics and punctuation from the page title, according to the
entry_name
setting in Module:languages, but will keep them in the displayed text. To link to a reconstructed term, such as Proto-Germanic Lua error in မေႃႇၵျူး:parameters at line 600: attempt to index local 'param' (a boolean value)., add * in front of this parameter. |alt=

- (optional) Alternate text to display in place of the term specified in

. The displayed term will still link to the page specified in|2=
. This can be used, for example, to add parens around a portion of the term. Please do not use this only for adding diacritics or punctuation to the term, as the template can automatically remove these. See above. |t=

- (optional) A gloss or short translation of the term. The parameter

is deprecated for this purpose. |sc=
- (optional) The script code (see Wiktionary:Scripts) for the script that the term is written in. When no code is given, the template will try to detect the script based on the characters in the term and the scripts in the language's data table (see Module:scripts § findBestScript). In most cases, it will succeed. If it fails, the code
None
will be used. |tr=
- (optional) Transliteration for non-Latin-script terms. When no transliteration is given, the template will try to add a default transliteration when possible. For certain languages, automated transliteration will override the value of this parameter. Use

if you don't want a transliteration to be automatically generated (you shouldn't really ever do this in an entry). |ts=
- (optional) Transcription for non-Latin-script terms whose transliteration is markedly different from the actual pronunciation. Should not be used for IPA pronunciations.

- (optional) A part of speech indication for the term.

- (optional) A literal translation for the term.

- Show the initial text with a lowercase initial letter.
|notext=1
- Omit the initial text altogether. The first thing displayed will be the link to the term from which this term is derived.

- Don't add the term to any category. Normally the term will be added to a category of the form
