Respellings should mostly follow the lexicographical tradition as found in unilingual Khmer dictionaries.
There are a few more notations that are specific to this template, with regards to the shortening of unstressed inherent vowels. This shortening is already automatically handled in simple disyllabic words like in របស់(rôbâs). For other situations:
if the shortening is also accompanied by a reduction, use (៏).
if the shortened syllable has another syllable before, the automatic shortening doesn't occur but can be forced with a bantak (់) directly placed on the shortened syllable. Ex:
